“After one session with Peggy Johnson, I feel like a whole new world of singing has opened up for me! In less than an hour, Peggy taught me how to protect my voice with warm-up and cool-down routines, how to expand my vocal range with a series of vocal exercises, and how to increase my endurance with better breath support technique. Peggy is an incredible vocal coach and I can hardly wait to see what she’ll teach me at our next session.”  Rebecca Lovell – Larkin Poe

“I am thoroughly amazed at the difference that even one vocal lesson with Peggy Johnson can make! After my first lesson with Peggy I was already approaching singing in a new way. She listened to my voice and was able to quickly – and accurately! – pinpoint my problems and give me simple methods to overcome them. I also learned effective warm-up routines and exercises to strengthen my voice. Most of all, she was warm and welcoming; I never felt nervous or embarrassed! Thank you Peggy!” Megan Lovell – Larkin Poe

When you attend a Larkin Poe concert, it is impossible not to see and hear that these sisters have soul and musical prowess well beyond their years. At 21 and 23 respectively, Rebecca & Megan Lovell – along with their bandmates, Rick Lollar on electric guitar, Chad Melton on drums, & Robby Handley on bass – are charismatic performers, experienced songwriters, and accomplished musicians. Featuring tight vocal harmonies and dizzying instrumental riffs, the music of Larkin Poe ranges from Folk-Rock to Acoustic R&B, from grooving Jam Band to delicate singer-songwriter – Larkin Poe is versatile, entertaining, and totally authentic in all that they do.
Born and raised in Georgia, the sisters’ musical journey began as children playing classical violin and piano at the ages of 5 and 6. In their early-teens, after winning a prestigious award on Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion on NPR, the then called “Lovell Sisters” toured internationally – from the stage of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN to Bonnaroo. At the beginning of 2010, after saying ‘farewell’ to The Lovell Sisters, the musical story of Rebecca and Megan’s young adulthood began in the form of a new band: Larkin Poe.

With a seemingly inexhaustible fount of creativity and passion, Larkin Poe hit the road running in January 2010 and in less than two years has already released 5 studio projects of all- original music, become a regular fixture on radio charts across Europe, and acted as the backing band for Elvis Costello on his international tours – with a Live Performance DVD due out Summer 2012 and a new studio project in the works for Winter 2012.

With extensive tours booked across the United States and Europe, Larkin Poe continues its high-energy invasion of the folk music scene, captivating audiences around the world with their insightful lyrics, magnetic presence, and dazzling instrumental virtuosity.

THE HEAD

“We have seen a big difference in our live performances ever since working with Peggy. She has provided us with great exercises that improve our harmonies and the overall strength of our vocals. We are very grateful for Peggy’s coaching.” -The Head

A young, energetic rock band from Atlanta, The Head has been writing, performing and recording music together since 2007. The Head is Jacob Morrell and twin brothers Jack and Mike Shaw. The Atlanta music press has been saying great things!

theheadhangon  “Atlanta’s new power-pop powerhouse. The Head’s latest release, Stockwood, is a terrific triptych that shows there is still altruism and fun in pop music. The record is a canapé till the release of their forthcoming LP due out this spring.” – Taylor Haag, Performer Magazine, March 2011. “The memorable music chimes, sparkling like the best AM radio hits from the bell bottom decade, but the threesome injects a youthful energy that keeps it fresh and modern.” – Shane Harrison, AJC Live Music Picks, January 13, 2011

Man oh man, they write some fantastic, poignant, harmony-fueled guitar pop.” – Jeff Clark, Stomp & Stammer, January 2011theheadperformance

“The Head could be the new face of Rock that music has been craving.” – Eye Music Network, January 2011

“The Head will make you want to wear shades. They’ll make you play air drums. They’ll make you need to dance. You know, like when you were a teenager.” -Al Kaufman, Atlanta Music Guide, January 08, 2010

theheadperformance2“To say I was instantly charmed by young Georgia threesome The Head is a bit of an understatement. Jacob Morrell and twins Jack and Mike Shaw have produced an endearing sound that shows great artistic potential, a talent that perhaps belies their young ages. Jack Shaw sits comfortably at the kit, impressively delivering lead vocals on a good portion of the band’s repertoire, with Mike Shaw punching the keys and bass (along with vocals) and Jacob Morrell picking up the lead guitar and backup vocals. With a little more refinement and some added life experience, The Head stands poised to take on the Atlanta and national indie rock scene by storm, one track and live show at a time.” -Heidi Drockelman, Indie-Music.Com

“Working with Ms. Peggy on singing and piano is great!

She’s prepared me for movie roles and continues to help me develop my skills as an artist.”
— Justin Martin

Justin Martin was born on March 17, 1996 in San Diego, California.

Justin_Martin_-_The_SoloistAt an early age, he and his family moved to Atlanta, Georgia and at age 7 he became involved with his church drama department.

Soon after, Justin’s natural talent for acting was discovered and he began acting in commercials and local theater productions.

In 2003, after working professionally for two years in Atlanta, Justin and his family traveled to Los Angeles for pilot season.  Justin’s parents figured they would only stay for about three weeks; however Justin continued to work for five months.  During the 2003 pilot season, Justin booked two national commercials, including Mercedes Benz and Shoney’s, episodic roles on The Bernie Mac Show and Malcolm in the Middle, and a role in the film Doing Hard Time.Justin_Martin_Earth

In 2004, Justin returned to LA for his second pilot season, where he booked another national commercial for Bounty Paper Towels and roles on TV shows Judging Amy and Drake and Josh.  After another five successful months in LA, Justin returned to Atlanta to enroll in one of the top private day schools in the country, The Lovett School.

In 2005, Justin was invited to New York to audition for the role of ‘Young Simba’ in the Disney Theatrical show The Lion King on Broadway, and out of thousands of contenders, Justin became the new star of the biggest show on Broadway.  He made his Broadway Debut on March 1st of 2006 and continued in that role for 12 months.  During this year, Justin also booked the role of ‘Travis’ in the Television Movie adaption of Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun where he worked with Tony Award winners Phylicia Rashad and Audra McDonald.

40th NAACP Image Awards - ArrivalsDuring his time on A Raisin in the Sun he also worked closely with Sean Combs, also known as P. Diddy.  In 2008, A Raisin in the Sun became the first made-for-television movie to be invited to premier at the Sundance Film Festival, and Justin joined the star-studded cast in attending the event.

Justin played the lead role of ‘Donnie’ in the popular Disney movie High School Musical 3: Senior Year and in 2009 he portrayed the young ‘Nathanial Ayers’ in the movie The Soloist starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr.

Justin_Martin_HSMHe played the lead roles in both Black Water Transit and The Express, as well as in The Last Adam.  Justin also portrayed the character ‘Raymond’ in the movie 96 Minutes and functioned as a co-star in The Vineyard and A Message from Mom and Pop.  Justin has been a lead guest star on the CBS television series Cold Case and he played multiple roles in the Broadway theatrical production of The Wiz.

In 2008, Justin was nominated for “Best Actor in a Guest Star Role” by the Young Artist Awards for his role in Cold Case, and in 2009, he received the NAACP Image Award.

Although it may seem that Justin’s acting career leaves him little time to focus on other things, he also sings, raps, and has dancing experience in many different types of dance.  He plays trumpet, drums, and piano and learned to play cello for his role in The Soloist.

He enjoys playing basketball, football, and baseball, and Justin is a brilliantly gifted student and a member of the National Honor Society and A Better Chance.

Because he is also a singer and dancer, Justin is looking forward to a long career in the industry as a triple threat.

LaLona Richards – Mrs Georgia America 2010

by admin in Comments: 0

lalonawinningmoment“Peggy of Peggy Johnson Productions and Talent, thank you for believing in me and taking me to a level of professionalism and ambition that I would not have achieved alone, and thank you for composing this song for my final walk tonight.” LaLona Richards – final walk Mrs. Georgia America

Born and raised in rural Kentucky, LaLona grew up with an emphasis on God, family, hard work, leadership, and great country cooking.  These principles have guided and directed her on her paths to success.

LaLona’s leadership qualities were obvious at an early age.  By the time she graduated high school, she had receive seven state-wide and two national awards, including Central Kentucky’s Youth Leader of the Year, State Champion in Original Oratory, Youth Governor of Kentucky, Mock Trial Champion (8th and 12th nationally), and Kentucky’s Youth Attorney of the Year.  She went on to double major in government and philosophy at the University of Virginia and graduate as a Distinguished Major – one of UVA’s highest honors.

lalonamrsgeorgiaWith a background groomed for law school, LaLona had every intention of spending her life in the courtroom.

However, during her senior year of college Teach For America — a program that recruits top college graduates to teach for two years in some of America’s toughest schools and then provides them with stipends and scholarships for graduate school – caught her attention.

She applied and was accepted (an average of 9% of applicants are accepted each year), and was assigned to teach English in rural Arizona.

Shocked by the lack of resources and absence of zeal on behalf of the teachers, and inspired by the enthusiasm and obvious ability of the students, LaLona realized that education – not law – was where she needed to be. Within a few weeks of school she had several experiences that have directly impacted the rest of her life, and she declared that improving the quality of education in high-poverty areas would be her life mission.  Whether it be soliciting resources, founding clubs or sports teams, or insisting on nights and weekends of tutoring, LaLona has paved a unique path to academic success for hundreds of students.

LaLona has taught 7th and 8th grade in both Arizona and Georgia, worked as the Southwest Recruitment Director for Teach For America, the Professional Development Specialist for KIPP WAYS Academy, and most recently was the Lead Middle School Facilitator for the Rollins Center for Language and Learning.

Under her direction, LaLona’s students have experienced remarkable results.  For example, in one year’s time, LaLona  guided one group of students to increase their standardized test scores by 22 percent in reading and 21 percent in language arts and had individual students rise as many as four grade levels in reading.  Additionally, in the 2007 original implementation of the 8th grade Writing Test, she led her students to a 95% passing rate, compared to 67% in Georgia and 63% in Atlanta Public Schools.

lalonacompcard

In addition to her passion for education, LaLona has a long-term love for fitness and nutrition. The country breakfasts and casseroles of Eastern Kentucky led her to a level of childhood obesity, and she realized around the age of ten that she needed to make immediate changes in her diet and exercise plan.  Always prone to self-educate, LaLona researched diet plans and began a regular exercise program with a gym trainer. She then began running competitively and playing team basketball. Her dedication to nutrition and exercise has never lost momentum. She went on to become a marathon runner and now works as a personal trainer and nutritional coach.

This myriad of interests is only secondary to LaLona’s number one focus in her life – her family. She is married to Dan Richards, a tax accountant for Deloitte, and the mother of two young boys: Brendan (3) and Hadley (1).  LaLona values nothing more than time watching, playing with, and learning from her sons.  She gave up her full-time career to be at home with the boys and is able to maintain both her education and fitness goals during a very well-disciplined time-management plan that revolves mostly around nap times and bedtimes!

On June 27th, 2010, LaLona’s world rapidly changed when she was crowned Mrs. Georgia America 2010.  A seemingly insurmountable dream realized, she is now traveling the state and nation speaking to others about what each of us can do to promote “Equality in Education” by improving the educational opportunities in high-poverty areas, offering seminars on fitness and nutrition, leading discussions on family relationships, and partnering with MENC (Music Education National Council) to promote music education in our schools.

Music is indeed a part of heaven on this earth. It enriches the brain, body, and soul. Thanks so much for all your positive encouragement through this happy journey.

I’ve known Peggy since I was 5. She’s one of the most talented women I’ve ever met it my life. She taught me everything I knew about music and pushed me to know things I didn’t really want to know at the time, but later realized were very important. I can say that Peggy shaped my childhood more so than my parents. She means the world to me, she’s a huge influence, not only in my life, not only in Atlanta, but In the music scene in general. She is my second mother.

Taryn Smith – Vocalist

When your teenager is determined to venture into the highly competitive world of music, it becomes quickly apparent they will need guidance.  In the advent of social media, the industry has changed dramatically and it is imperative to understand the way it works and how to navigate it.  As a mom and manager to a 15 year old singer/songwriter, I prayed for someone who was principled, talented, knowledgeable, and accessible to shepherd us through the process.  My prayers were answered with Peggy Still Johnson.  She is, foremost, a talented musician and teacher, but more importantly, a friend and mentor with a real heart and love for fostering talent.  This mom is forever grateful for her dedication to my most prized possession and for seeing in her what I have always seen.  With Peggy at the wheel,  I don’t question “whether” she will make it, I only wonder “when” it will happen!!
